About Us
Saving lives by preventing lung disease and improving lung health in Alaska
Imagine an Alaska...
Imagine an Alaska where everyone breathes easily. Where no one gets lung cancer, emphysema or tuberculosis. Where no one dies of a smoking-related illness. Where children and their parents live without fear of an acute asthma attack. Where youth don't smoke, the air is clear and everyone's home and workplace is free of allergens, mold, airborne toxins and secondhand smoke.
In this imagined Alaska, the American Lung Association® in Alaska's (ALA in Alaska) job would be finished. We could close our doors and celebrate our success.
However, in today's real Alaska, we're up against the tobacco industry's billions of advertising dollars aimed at attracting youth to its deadly addiction. We watch loved ones suffer and die of smoking-related diseases. We're challenged with increasing rates of asthma in both children and adults, and poor air quality is more and more common.
Though we have a long way to go to get to our imagined Alaska, ALAA is making great strides in tobacco counter-marketing and education, smoking cessation, asthma management and indoor/outdoor air quality. We encourage you to share in our commitment to Clear the Air.
Imagine and Do...
Close your eyes and take a deep breath. Just breathe.
Feel the air in your lungs. Listen to the sound as you exhale.
Now, imagine everyone in Alaska breathing together, a deep strong breath from many lungs.
Breathe with us...
