2nd Annual Asthma Summit
Alaskans Addressing Asthma

2006 Alaska
Asthma Summit
More than 75 delegates from 13 Alaska communities gathered for the 2nd Alaska Asthma Summit at the Hotel Captain Cook in Anchorage on December 1, 2005. Based on the breakout session notes, positive evaluation feedback and comments we've received following the Summit, it was a very productive day. Thank you all for making it such a success!
To keep the momentum going and move forward with completing the Alaska State Asthma Plan, the Coalition has incorporated points made during the break-out discussion into the draft Alaska State Asthma Plan for further development.
More than 72,000 Alaskans report that they have suffered from asthma at some point in their life. Asthma affects not only persons with asthma, but also families, friends, schools, employers, employees, health care providers and policy makers. While asthma is a chronic and potentially fatal disease, it can be controlled reducing its impact on Alaskans. We encourage you to join the Alaska Asthma Coalition for a number of reasons. The Alaska Asthma Coalition will continue to grown and be a vehicle through which we can achieve outcomes together that can’t be accomplished by a single organization on its own. The Coalition is a way to share information and resources, as well as challenges. It provides the infrastructure needed to evaluate progress. And, perhaps most important, it provides a unified voice to those who make decisions in Alaska, encouraging them to consider policies, programs and activities that help to reduce the burden of asthma in Alaska.
