The One Year Anniversary of Anchorage's
BIG WILD SMOKEFREE LIFE!
In August 2006, the Anchorage Assembly adopted a municipal ordinance to make all enclosed public places and workplaces in Anchorage smokefree, including restaurants and bars. An effort to repeal the measure by initiative was defeated in a citywide election April 2007 with 72% of Anchorage voters supporting smokefree workplaces. The smokefree workplace ordinance went into effect July 1, 2007.To view the ordinance in its entirety click here.
Survey research in March 2008 shows that public support for smokefree indoor air in Anchorage is stronger than ever not only with members of the general public as a whole but even among those who smoke!
The right of non-smokers to breathe smokefree air should be respected by smokers.
